Contest Participation

Consider honoring Mom by participating in a local, regional or even national Mother’s Day contest.

In the days, weeks or even months leading up to Mother’s Day, consider submitting a creative work to a local or regional contest that publicly displays your love and appreciation for Mom, or submit her name for a drawing that may earn her a special prize on Mother’s Day.

Whether submitting to a children’s coloring contest at grocery store, a national essay prize or even a Mother’s Day blog, a Mother’s Day contest can be a unique way to show Mom you think of her often.

Local and National Competitions

Surprisingly enough there are countless Mother’s Day contests, from regional to nationally recognized:

For the most part, Mother’s Day contests tend to be local and regional. Children may compete in school coloring or art contests or poetry competitions.

It's Not Who Wins

But regardless of whether or not one wins first prize, the act of participating in a contest is a genuine and highly flattering gesture to Mom. In other words, you’re giving it your all for Mom.

At the end of any contest participants have a lasting and beautiful artifact that can be presented to Mom and appreciated long after the contest is over. Even a written essay can act as a permanently accessible “letter” for Mom to have on hand and be reminded of how much she means to you.

Essay Competitions

Essay competitions have been a traditional contest format for Mother’s Day for generations. Imagine your feelings about Mom and the profound emotions and imagery they inspire. The essay is an opportunity to translate these ever-present aspects of the mother relationship into an explicit form of gratitude, praise and public celebration.

Write about what Mom does and has done for you, how she has dedicated herself to you and the well-being of her children and family. Write about what this means to you, how it makes you feel. A convincing essay will combine the concrete details (driving you to Soccer practice) with their abstract implications (it means she cares about you, supports you, and it makes you feel happy and loved).

Best essays are both original and highly accessible to Mothers and families around the world the prose reverberates with a universal theme and emotion. Remember that other readers might relate best to your most personal experiences. Catch the judges’ attention without clichés:
